At last night's board meeting, we recognized and remembered a very special person and friend to the Sparta Area School District, Mr. John Harrison.
In March 2019, Sparta community member John Harrison began his mission to ensure no child would go hungry in the Sparta Area School District. He decided to stand at the corner of Wisconsin and Black River Street every Saturday morning to solicit donations for the Angel Lunch Fund. Through generous contributions from those passing by, John was able to donate approximately $3,000 to the fund before his unexpected passing in June of 2019. John's personal goal was $10,000. John's family is continuing his work so that no child goes hungry. They have now raised $10,305, meeting John's goal, and plan to continue this fundraising work.
Tonight, John's family received a board commendation and a plaque recognizing John, and the lunch fund was officially renamed the John Harrison Memorial Angel Lunch Fund.
We are deeply grateful to have gotten to know John throughout the past several months. His passion and kindness made a great impact in our community and on the children in our district. We are also grateful to John's family for continuing his work and making such a positive difference in our community. John's influence will live on as his work is continued, and we will always remember his kindness and generosity in helping the children in our district.
