School is right around the corner and SASD is preparing for a great start to the 22-23 school year on September 1. Our top priority is the safety of all students and staff, and please know we have been going through our procedures, facility checks, etc. to do our best to make sure our facilities are safe. With our students continuing and/or starting up their activities, being in and around schools, please make sure we are all driving safely and slowly through school zones and watching for people in the crosswalks. Soon, buses will be going through their routes, stopping at each drop off/pick up site, and flashing their lights. When you see this, please make sure you are far away from the bus and watch for students. Building principals will be sharing more specific safety and security information as well.
I would like to thank all the community members who attended the listening and learning sessions the past two weeks, along with the other interactions I had with community members in other settings. I appreciated the comments, questions, and dialogue that we had. School finance, referendums, Cataract Elementary School, curriculum, communication, trust, social responsibility of schools, and our curricular and co-curricular programing were some of the themes throughout the discussions. It was also a time where people shared SASD’s strengths, challenges, and opportunities.
Thank you all for your support for SASD and if other community members have additional thoughts and/or questions in regard to SASD, please feel free to reach out to me at 608-366-3400 or sruss@spartan.org . We look forward to serving the community in a positive way, and welcoming our students to a great school year. Go Spartans!!!
Sam Russ, SASD Superintendent
